MOL's 3Q transpacific on-time improves

2011-11-1

Japan's Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd (MOL) says its own-operated ships had a perfect on-time record on Asia-Europe services in the third quarter, while transpacific performance improved significantly in the same period, American Shipper reported.
The Japanese line releases quarterly on time arrival performance statistics for its services - with separate statistics for its ships and ones on which it takes slots.
For ships under MOL operation, the vessels achieved 100 per cent on-time arrivals on Asia-Europe, 92 per cent on the Asia-US West Coast lane (up from 79 per cent in the second quarter), 67 per cent on the Asia-US East Coast lane, and 86 per cent on the transatlantic.
For all ships on MOL services (including those not operated by MOL), the shipping line had 89 per cent on-time arrivals on Asia-Europe, 95 per cent on the Asia-US West Coast lane (up from 88 per cent in the second quarter), 86 per cent on the Asia-US East Coast lane, and 92 per cent on the transatlantic.
The statistics incorporate information from 21 services and the company considers a vessel on time if it arrives within 24 hours of its scheduled arrival.
"The situation improved after Chinese ports congestion relieved," the line said. However, MOL said US all-water services from Asia were affected by typhoons in Asia and hurricane season on the US East Coast.
