Fujian seeks approval to provide intermodal service to central and eastern China
POSTED: 8:47 a.m. EDT, September 14,2007
FUJIAN Communications Department director Xie Lanjie said his province has applied to the national railway ministry to launch an intermodal rail container service between its port cities of Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou and centres in central and western China.

Mr Xie said his southwest coastal province is also applying for a reduction in the rail container freight rate for transshipments via Fujian.

To attract more cargo from central and western regions, Fujian carried out series of new measures in January. These involved making reductions in expressway tolls on container trucks carrying transshipments, exempting port dues for this cargo, giving it priority when clearing customs and offering preferences to businesses from targeted regions to encourage investment.
