POSTED: 9:46 a.m. EDT, August 11,2007
THE Italian subsidiary of Taiwan-based liner giant Evergreen, Italia Marittima, has paid Yuan1.65m ($218,000) in compensation following an alleged collision between the 5,652 TEU containership LT Unica and a Chinese fishing boat in January. The trawler capsized and one of its crew members is missing, presumed dead. The Taizhou Maritime Safety Administration says the LT Unica's chief officer, Maro Manzoni, admitted his ship was involved Italia Marittima says it is still not clear which ship was involved as the Chinese authorities have refused to disclose their evidence. Nevertheless the shipping company decided to reach an out of court settlement
