The Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement is a controversial Free Trade Agreement that is currently being negotiated with Canada, Mexico, Japan, Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam, Australia, Chile, Peru, New Zealand, and Singapore.
While proponents of the TPP claim that it will open market access for American businesses while improving the economy, critics say it will have detrimental effects not only for businesses and the economy but also for labor, the environment, consumer regulation, intellectual property rights, and humans rights, and that the TPP will also threaten "Buy America" or "Buy Local" government procurement programs.
