The International Trade accolade at the Derby Telegraph Business Awards aims to recognise companies which have increased its exports. Robin Johnson speaks to category sponsor PKF Cooper Parry.
THE strongest companies are not just those who sell their goods and services in the UK but across the world.
Getting into exporting is not easy - but many who have dabbled their toes into foreign waters are now reaping the rewards.
Derby is home to a number of companies whose products and expertise are in demand the world over.
It is also home to a number of global companies.
Achieving success on an international scale is something that the Derby Telegraph Business Awards intends to recognise through its International Trade Award.
The company that will be judging this award is the category sponsor - accountancy and business adviser PKF Cooper Parry.
Formerly with an office in Derby, the firm has recently centralised its operations to Castle Donington - close to East Midlands Airport, which is the gateway to overseas markets.
The International Trade Award rewards an organisation that has generated substantial and sustained increases in export activity.
The judges will be tasked with considering all aspects of the winning company, looking at its unique offering and business approach, as well as the level of international trade achieved and the measurable financial results of this.
Peter Sterling, partner at PKF Cooper Parry, said: "We've had a long relationship with the Derbyshire business community and so we wanted to get involved with an awards programme that would celebrate the very best that the county has to offer in terms of international trade talent.
"Since joining the global PKFI network last year, we are seeing first-hand the benefits of being tuned into the international business community.
"We see ourselves as a global firm that not only does business overseas but that also advises clients on trading abroad, so we felt that the International Trade category was spot-on for us.
"Bringing together a host of high-achieving businesses and individuals from across Derbyshire will really highlight how active the county is in the world of business.
"I think it will put a real spotlight on the area and give us even more reason to be proud of the great business achievements that are happening here all the time.
"Derbyshire has had some fantastic business news over the last few months - not least with the Bombardier contract win, which is a huge boost to the local economy.
"The county is home to some very strong, innovative and capable businesses which can clearly punch above their weight. I think the future for the county is very bright and very encouraging.
"PKF Cooper Parry would like to wish all of the businesses in the International Trade category the very best of luck."
